St Michael's Mount is situated on the South coast and is an 8 minute drive from Inverewe. The island is reached by walking along the causeway which is exposed at low tide, or by taking one of the small ferry-boats which run continually during the times that the causeway is submerged.

Whichever way you get there, the Mount is well worth the visit and is steeped in history.

The great granite crag which rises from the waters of Mount's bay is surmounted by an embattled castle, originally a Benedictine priory built in the twelfth century and daughter house of the famous Mont St. Michel in Normandy. From the twelfth century the Mount was the scene of many military sieges, a well-known place of pilgrimage and from 1660, until the present day, home of the St. Aubyn family.
